Hristina Blagoeva
Hristina Blagoeva is a flutist native of Bulgaria. She is currently on the faculty of New Mexico State University - Carlsbad and the Webb Institute in New York. She has established a career as a soloist, chamber musician, and performer of contemporary music. Recent New York City performances have included a sold out concert at Le Poisson Rouge celebrating Philip Glass, with the composer in attendance, as well as at Carnegie Hall, performing Joan Tower’s Rising for flute and string quartet with the composer in attendance. Hristina has performed with large ensembles in Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, and the National Sawdust.
An avid contemporary music performer, Hristina has commissioned and premiered multiple solo flute and chamber works, including works for her flute and percussion ensemble Iktus Duo. Iktus Duo was the 2014 Ackerman Chamber Music Competition winner and has appeared at Harvard University, Bates College, and universities in Louisiana, Texas, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Colorado, Washington and Oregon. With the ensemble, Hristina was featured on the nationally syndicated radio show Relevant Tones, a program dedicated to contemporary music on WFMT Chicago, IL.
Hristina was the winner of first prizes for solo flute and chamber music with Blagoeva-Massicotte Duo in the 2017 “Musical Fireworks in Baden-Württemberg” International Music Competition in Mühlacker, Germany. In 2015 she was a second prize winner of the Gershwin International Music Competition in NYC, and a semi-finalist of the Concert Artist Guild Music Competition and the Astral Artist Music Competition.
In 2013, Ms. Blagoeva was selected as an Artist in Residence at the Central Greenough Artist in Residence Program in Geraldton, Australia. As part of her residency she led masterclasses and performances and concluded the residency with a recital at the Queens Park theater. Ms. Blagoeva has given lecture recitals, workshops and performances at the Florida Flute Association, Texas Flute Festival, Wisconsin Flute Festival, the Flute Society of Kentucky Flute Festival, Austin Flute Festival, the Greater Philadelphia Flute Fair, Oklahoma Flute Festival, and the Mid-South Flute Fair. Other notable appearances have included at the New York Flute Fair, New Jersey Flute Fair, the 2021 and 2016 National Flute Association Conventions, solo recitals at the Bulgarian Consulate in NYC, and at the embassy of Bulgaria in Washington D.C. as part of the European Month of Culture and the Bulgarian Music Society series.
Hristina completed her BM at Louisiana State University, MM at the University of Texas at Austin, and DMA at Stony Brook University in May 2018. She has studied with Dr. Katherine Kemler, Marianne Gedigian, Aralee Dorough, and Carol Wincenc.
